Our Montessori Kindergarten program involves a two and a half hour work period each morning. During this time the kindergarten students utilize Montessori materials alongside the three and four year old students. In order to facilitate the kindergarten learning goals, we often guide students’ morning work period. Students are encouraged to become engaged in kindergarten level work. These activities include work such as addition/subtraction sheets, sight words, sentence building, journal writing, and reading of leveled books.
In the afternoon the kindergarten separates from the three and four year olds in order to receive more individualized instruction. At this time, the kindergarten students will often work on projects and activities to further their academic skills. For example, the students will often create their own books, learn about various science concepts or expand their language skills through word families.
The kindergartners also attend curriculum support classes including Spanish, Music, Technology, Art, Physical Education, Library, and Ballet.
